The Welcoming Congregation Program

On October 6, 2013 our congregation began our journey to becoming an officially recognized Welcoming Congregation.  You might wonder what a Welcoming Congregation is.  Aren't most congregations welcoming?  It would be weird if they weren't, right?  That's certainly true, but the Welcoming Congregation Program is an educational and outreach program that helps UU congregations learn how to be the safest most welcoming places that we can be in regards to the LGBTQ community.  It can be hard for members of the LGBTQ community to find a church home because you can't always know in advance whether a congregation will be fully welcoming of who you are.  And we know that it's especially hard in Pennsylvania right now because - even though same-sex couples can legally marry - members of the LGBTQ community can still be fired from their jobs just for being who they are.  Because we strongly believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person, we are committed to providing a safe and welcoming spiritual home to every member of our community.
